As of today, the watchword is “Movemember.” Movemember’s where you grow a mustache to bring awareness to prostate cancer and to overall mental health. But this blogger’s already got a constant reminder both to myself and to the educated World about those issues: I’m a black male.
Black men are more likely to suffer from prostate cancer, or so I’m told. We’re also more likely to die from a stress-related heart attack that, in turn, is the product of the kind of constant, daily discrimination we face in all aspects of life.
So, for me, the best contribution I can give to Movemember is to keep my clean shaven face and head, get to the gym, eat correctly, maintain my business, love my Mom and my friends, and keep on the alert for a good future wife, or at least a long term girlfriend I can trust.
That’s all I got.
