San Francisco Giants Pitcher Sergio Romo’s incredible killer instinct performance in shutting down Detroit Tigers batters ended with a “K” on his final pitch of Game 4 and the series. As this happened, this blogger watched from The Republic Bar at Lombard and Scott in San Francisco. And thanks to the owners and managers of the establishment, I was able to get a great video of the action there both before and after Sergio’s earthquake-level out. Here’s that video:
I left The Republic to get video of the action on the street. Folks were just coming out from bars and apartments and condos to celebrate in The Marina District. The local liquor store on Scott and Chesnut was packed with fans. Traffic was blocked by revelers, most of them who spilled out onto the street from The Tipsee Pig and from the old Delaney’s Bar. I figured it was a god time to duck into The Grove at Chestnut and Avila to get dinner – I was correct, there was no line.
As I was eating, uploading videos, and recharging my phone, The Grove attracted a small crowd of people, eager to seek refuge from an unpredictable riot-sized crowed. But it wasn’t as if they weren’t in search of fun. A woman with a very short bright green dress asked me to take a photo of her and her female friend. As I was planning the shot, I said she should show a little leg. She turned toward me and as she did, it was obvious to anyone who happened to look our way that she had nothing on under it. Nada.
I started cracking up. Took the shot she asked for – a clean version.
As she and her friend were leaving, we exchanged pleasantries and I started laughing a bit. “What are you laughing at?,” she said. I just gave her a knowing look.
A Rowdy Fun Crowd That Seemed To Care Less About Cars
When I went back out to Chestnut, the scene had gone full-tilt. People were diving into mosh pits. Women and men were dancing on cars, and so hard that, in one case, the hood of an SUV caved in six inches – you can see the action on this video:
One thing I noticed is that many bars closed down at 11 PM, which has to be according to plan because many of the establishments normally close at 2 AM. If so, the plan worked, as the crowds in the Marina died down rather quickly compared to 2010.
It was very much like when the SF Giants won in 2010, but this time the San Francisco Police had a better handle on the matter.
