Tony Scott reportedly killed himself after being diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. The brother of Prometheus director Ridley Scott, and the director of some of this blogger’s favorite movies including Top Gun and Crimson Tide, and a known adrenaline junkie, for some strange reason felt he could not go on living according to numerous reports.

According to police as quoted in various reports, a 911 call was made at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The call (the tape has not yet been released) explained that “an individual” had jumped off a large suspension bridge called the Vincent Thomas Bridge. The body of Scott was recovered around 3 p.m., when it was identified by authorities, according to Lt. Joseph Bale of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Reports are that an autopsy is to be performed today.

That news would seem to answer the question posted in this video…

But to this blogger, it doesn’t even still. And that’s because one can have brain cancer and still survive. It’s not an automatic, immediate death sentence, even though the normal condition of the person with it is described to be “fair to poor.”

But since Tony Scott took his life, we’ll have to wait until the autopsy to learn if he may have had any headaches or seizures that are commonly associated with the problem.

For the present, the entertainment industry mourns his passing. Tom Cruise posted his thoughts on Twitter. Here’s the Twitlonger version:

Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time. -Tom

Stay tuned.
