Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross, and McKayla Maroney are the “Fierce Five” USA Women’s Gymnastics Team, but Tuesday evening (Wednesday in the UK) saw the 18-year-old Raisman become the group’s Super Woman.

Raisman had to be that to lift the USA from certain decline after Wieber’s less-than-expected performance, and Gabby Douglas unexpected flame out after scoring two Gold Medals last week – had Gabby performed well on the uneven bars and then the balance beam, she would have earned four medals and become the most decorated performer for all of the women.

Instead, it’s Raisman, and it happened after the USA challenged her floor performance score, thrusting her from fourth place to third place, and giving the USA a fighting chance. Aly then went on to score a Gold Medal in the floor exercise.

Regardless of the details, it’s gratifying to see these women come of age before our eyes at the London Olympics.

Stay tuned.
