A look at my show notes for Leigh Steinberg, Mike Silver, Bill Chachkes, Doug Thornton, Melissa Rubin – Zennie On Julie Buehler’s “Buehler’s Day Off” Show at KXPS 1010 AM 1 PM – 3 PM, Palm Dessert, live link:

Show Open – Intros At 1
Melissa Rubin at 1:16 – Mel is Zennie62.com’s top NFL football blogger not named Bill Chachkes. She’s an expert on all things Baltimore Ravens and is talking about the Baltimore Ravens and Terrell Suggs. How will local favorite Brendon Ayanbadejo of UCLA fit into the Ravens plans for replacing Terrell Suggs? And is Joe Flacco an elite quarterback like Carson Palmer or Phil Rivers of the Raiders and the Chargers?

Bill Chachkes – Bill Chachkes of Football Reporters Online and Zennie62.com has covered the NFL Draft for 35 years, and the last eight in partnership with Zennie62.com. Bill’s going to talk about the NFL head injury scandal and the bounty issue and how it impacts perceptions of the game – would he allow his kids to play in the NFL today?

Mike Silver – Long time friend and fellow Cal fanatic Michael Silver covers the NFL for Yahoo! Sports, and broke the Saints bounty hunter story. Mike’s also going to talk about the NFL head injury scandal and the bounty issue and how it impacts perceptions of the game – would he allow his kids to play in the NFL today?

After break, we will talk about the LA Stadium issue and “that memo” from the NFL about teams and territory. I don’t see the Raiders as being a the team that goes into that stadium. Also, two AFC Teams will not fill it. But I do see a market for two NFL expansion teams to go in – it makes economic sense to do that because you have more games, and the unique chance to design a market-based brand approach that doesn’t come with relocating a team to LA.

Then we’ll have Leigh Steinberg. The Super Sports Agent featured in Jerry McQuire and who helped me with Oakland’s Super Bowl bid effort in 2000 was arguably the first agent to talk about head injury issues seemingly a long time ago.

After Leight, we’ll talk about Dara Torres – keep going or retire? She’s elected to quit after missing a chance to qualify on July 2nd by just 1-tenth of a second. Julie says she should get out. I say she should stay! Why? She’s a great example of how a 45-year-old strong woman can be competitive. Julie says it’s due to HGH, but that was from reports linking her to a Dr. Tony Galea, who’s been linked to Tiger Woods, and many other athletes, and there was no connection found. So no. I think Dara should have kept going.

Then we talk about the face-plant that Nastia Liukin did at her Olympic trials meet, one that caused her to elect not to go to the Olympics. Julie talks about the accident and we will have it as Zennie62.com in one hour from this post.

Finally, we have an Angels preview, then Doug Thornton SVP of SMG and General Manger of The Louisiana Superdome. Doug arguably single-handedly saved the Superdome from destruction after Katrina, and now the Superdome gets ready for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans in 2013.

A great show coming!
