Klout just gave this blogger another reason to dislike its system, and another reason to stick with Kred. The social media ranking system with the inconsistent and unreliable formula – failing to account for self-hosted WordPress blogs, YouTube video uploads, and the total number of platforms beyond the narrow range it includes – now has a new problem: it recognizes Star Wars and not Star Trek as a topic.

Klout now has a provision that allows you to add a topic that you feel you’re an expert it. But it’s not that simple as being able to type any topic in it. It occurred to me to add Star Trek, since I’ve worked two Star Trek conventions, watched all 79 episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series an average of 10 times each, and interviewed everyone from William Shatner and the Captains Of Star Trek, to Denise Crosby, twice for Malachi Throne (‘Menagerie’), Celeste Yarnell (‘The Apple’) and even the man who played ‘The Gorn,’ Bobby Clark. Here’s a video taste:

William Shatner And The Captains:

Celeste Yarnell And Malachi Throne:

Bobby Clark: The Gorn Commander

So when I tried to type Star Trek, the Klout system gave me, get this, “Starbucks” and then “Star Wars” and it would not even let me type Star Trek.

Klout has reached a new low of lameness.

Stay tuned.
