The Cannes Film Festival. If you can’t be there in person, thank God for Social Media. The 65th version of this high-class party in France opened with a movie called Moonrise Kingdom. The storyline for the Wes Anderson-directed Moonrise Kingdom (written with Roman Coppola) is “A pair of young lovers flee their New England town, which causes a local search party to fan out and find them.”

But considering that the flick has Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, Kara Hayward, Bob Balaban as the Narrator, and other notables, it turns out to be a pretty big deal of an acting vehicle. Indeed, the trailer itself grabs you, takes you in, and holds your attention. To the extent a good film is only amplified by its trailer, Moonrise Kingdom’s a great movie. Here’s the trailer:

In this entertaining featurette, Bob Balaban introduces the movie, and Bruce Willis as ‘Captain Sharp:’

Sacha Barron Cohen Crashes Cannes

While the cast of Moonrise Kingdom was taking its intro bows, Sacha Barron Cohen was doing what he alone does best: being irrelevantly relevant by crashing the Cannes Film Festival; trouble is, he almost fell off a camel while promoting the DVD release of his movie The Dictator. Take a look:

The Opening Red Carpet Ceremony Has The Snowman

And what would a review of the opening of The Cannes Film Festival be without a look at the fabulous Red Carpet walk of stars. The video by The Telegraph UK opens with what I thought was the Abominable Snowman, but was really a giant L’Oreal Paris gorgeous blush embellished Marchesa gown with flared ruffle skirt, with a matching Marchesa crystal embroidered handbag, all worn and carried by the super-hot Eva Longoria.

If it wasn’t Longoria’s hotness sucking the air out of the red carpet, then we had other stars to celebrate, like Star Trek’s Chris Pine, who’s got to be enjoying the rise of his star post-Captain Kirk. The reason he’s in the house? An animated film to be released this fall called Rise of the Guardians, which his voice stars in with Isla Fisher Alec Baldwin, and Hugh Jackman and Jude Law. Pop Sugar reports that Baldwin’s got another role at Cannes, as he’s in another film called Seduced and Abandoned. It’s a documentary he’s making with James Toback about the task of going to Cannes to raise money for a film.

Think about it.

Is that real?

Stay tuned.
