The Avengers, Marvel Entertainment’s epic movie bringing together Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye under the watchful eye of Nick Fury, has grossed more box office revenue over a weekend than any movie in history.

The Avengers became the fastest movie to reach $100 million, $150 million, and $200 million. It made the most money for a Saturday ($60 million), and Sunday ($50 million) ever. The only mark the movie missed was largest for opening day; it came in number two behind Harry Potter.

The reasons for the success of The Avengers rest in the fact that it not only brings Earth’s Mightiest Heros together on the big screen for the first time, but that it’s just a plain good movie. As my review showed, where I talked with Oaklanders about The Avengers last week, everyone liked it and planned to see it again.

Moreover the reach of The Avengers also gave light to an arab food called Shawarma. Sometimes called an “Arab Taco,” you can get them at The Oasis Market at 3045 Telegraph in Oakland, the best place to do so according to Yelp.

And in closing, I honor the work and life of George Lindsey, who played Goober Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show, and Mayberry RFD.
