For some reason CNBC and the makers of Sonicsgate decided to air the documentary detailing how the Seattle Supersonics managed to break a 41-year relationship with Seattle and leave, during NFL Draft weekend. Sports fans, especially those in cities with NFL teams, are more likely to watch the NFL Draft than Sonicsgate, so that was a lousy error. Anyway, here’s the intro video and press release about Sonicsgate:

CNBC to air “Sonicsgate: Requiem for a Team” on April 27 Webby Award-winning film re-cut and updated for national TV premiere.

WHAT: “Sonicsgate: Requiem for a Team” National TV Premiere
WHEN: Friday, April 27 and Sunday, April 29 at 10:00 P.M. Eastern Time
WHERE: National TV broadcast on CNBC

Unlike the two-hour Online Director’s Cut of the film released in 2009, which was only available for free streaming on YouTube and Vimeo, the new 2012 re-cut will be made available for purchase on DVD via the newly launched website www.sonicsgate.com.

“Sonicsgate: Requiem for a Team” explores how a perfect storm of corporate greed and political impotence caused Seattle’s 41-year NBA team to be ripped away in 2008, when it relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder. Despite a loyal fan base fighting to save the Sonics in a strong basketball market, Seattle ultimately lost its only
major professional sports team to win a championship, becoming the latest casualty of
the sports-industrial complex.

Director Jason Reid and producer Adam Brown are available for television, radio, digital and print media interviews. If you are a media member looking to write a review or cover “Sonicsgate: Requiem for a Team,” please contact the producers listed above to request a DVD Press Screener or a private HD link to watch the film immediately. We can also provide a full transcript of the film upon request.
