Now, after being caught in a lie after what could have been a tragic and fatal motorcycle accident that leaves more questions (Like, what really happened on the motorcycle that made Petrino lose control with her on it?), Bobby Petrino has been placed on paid administrative leave, and Jessica Dorrell’s job status is, as of this writing, a matter of concern.
(And as of now, Athletic Director Jeff Long is still reviewing the case, of course, we just finished Easter Sunday, so give him time.)
Now, Dorrell, an unknown save for her Arkansas Volleyball days where she was frequently used to promote the Razorback team, is now known. The Master Of Business Adminstration grad has to now live in fear of how her life’s going to turn.
I’m not saying anyone should pity her because she made her own bed, but the bottom line is now her entire life’s in an apparent state of flux and she’s now a public figure because of the Internet chatter this story started about her. As of this initial writing on Saturday morning “Bobby Petrino” is the number one Google Trend, even over Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s relationship news.
It’s not just the job she had but her planned marriage to Josh Morgan, a University of Arkansas Swimming Director Of Operations she was engaged to marry on June 9th (And as an FYI, the website announcing their wedding has been taken down because of all of the malicious comments added to it, in the wake of the publicity surrounding this sex scandal).
From the looks of this, Jessica may have not sewn all of her wild oats before settling down. This is what Petrino said in his statement:
“The state police report today provides an accurate description of my accident, which includes details that had not publically come to light prior to the report being issued. I regret that I have not publically acknowledged a passenger on the vehicle. I have been in constant pain, medicated and the circumstances involving the wreck have come out in bits and pieces. That said I certainly had a concern about Jessica Dorrell’s name being revealed. In my press conference, I referred to her simply as ‘a lady’. My concern was to protect my family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming public. In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgment when I chose not to be more specific about those details. Today, I’ve acknowledged this previous inappropriate relationship with my family and those within the athletic department administration.
Jessica Dorell I apologize to my wife, Becky, and our four children, Chancellor (David) Gearhart, Jeff Long, the Board of Trustees, University administration, my coaching staff, student-athletes and the entire state of Arkansas. I have been humbled by the outpouring of concern and get-well wishes. I apologize to the Razorback Nation for the attention my actions have brought to the University of Arkansas and our program. I will fully cooperate with the University throughout this process and my hope is to repair my relationships with my family, my Athletic Director, the Razorback Nation and remain the head coach of the Razorbacks.”
Other Update Details
Apparently Petrino did not drop off Jessica at home, but at her own car, then went to the hospital. That, plus Petrino’s own statement last Tuesday that he was with his wife on that Sunday, and not Jessica Dorrell, plus his admission that there was an “inappropriate relationship”, means not just that the two were together without either Petrino’s wife’s knoweldge, or Jessica’s fiance’s for that matter, but that they may have been “sneaking around” for a while.
As for Jessica, Right Entertainment reports that Jessica Dorrell was born May 30, 1986 in Aledo, Texas where she grew up and finished high school, then graduated from the University of Arkansas herself in 2008, where she majored in Business played Volleyball, remained to get an MBA degree in 2010. She has a younger brother named Chris.
Now, Jessica may have been carrying on this affair with Coach Petrino for some time, maybe several years considering that he arrived their in 2007.
(UPDATE: Mr. Long said that Dorrell and Petrino had a relationship for a “significant amount of time” even though he did not specify how long that was. The fact is, at some point, most likely during her time as fundraiser for the athletic program, Jessica and Bobby started their relationship. Whatever happened, Petrino gave Dorrell $20,000 and then engineered a way for her to get the position of Student Academic Coordinator within the football program. Some have speculated that the $20K may have been “hush money” and I’m going to make the extreme case that perhaps Petrino had unprotected sex with Dorrell, and in some way got her pregnant, so this was a way of first paying for an abortion, and then making her “set up” occupationally so she would not be compelled to turn on him.)
As for Jessica Dorrell’s college career in Volleyball, she was a super-woman standout player for the Arkansas Razorbacks. At 5-11, Dorrell was All-SEC for all three years, and led all outside hitters in kills. By her senior year, Dorrell averaged 2.49 kills per game, and 2.21 diggs per game.
Her first job at Arkansas after business school was in the fundraising department, where she reportedly set records for the University. She started working directly for Petrino March 28th.
Will Petrino Be Fired?
Well, Bobby Petrino is a public employee and subject to all of the rules that go with his position, but it’s up to Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long. If you’re interested, here’s Bobby’s contract:
