While the GOP tries to figure out which fat cat will be served up to President Barack Obama this fall, Obama himself is continuing to enjoy approval and unemployment rates that have taken on a “Reagan trajectory.”

This space reported that last fall, Obama’s approval rating was higher than that for both President Reagan and President Clinton at similar periods of time.

Now, Obama’s position in the polls has improved with employment reports. The most recent news has the U.S. unemployment rate at just over 8 percent, or 8.3 percent. With that, Obama’s approval ratings are on course to continue to improve even depending on the poll one reads.

The more liberal polls by CBS News and New York Times have the President’s approval ratings at two points over his disproval ratings, whereas the conservative polls by Rassmusen, Gallup, Pew, and CNN all have Obama’s approval ratings a hair under his negative ratings. Yes, how Obama is viewed all depends on liberal or conservative polling and news delivery.

In other words, don’t expect Fox News or CNN to deliver a mostly positive view of President Obama, at least until data is so overwhelmingly in his favor they have no choice but to present a positive report. CNN makes claims at being unbiased, but its decade-long chase for Fox-type ratings causes it to be more conservative than it admits from time to time.

Stay tuned.
