Congratulations to our US Women’s Soccer Team, which earned qualification for the London Olympic games in fine fashion over the weekend.

The contest that sealed the deal was the Friday night 3-0 win over Costa Rica, and you can thank super star (no, let’s get that title right) Super Star GoalKeeper Hope Solo for that win, and because the Costa Ricans came in and made such a game of it, that it was closer than the score indicated, and caused Solo to make great saves just to seal the deal. Alex Morgan came through to hammer the nail in their coffin with a final goal.

Yes, the same Morgan I interviewed at CES 2012:

“There were moments where I think Costa Rica were outplaying us, and it just shows you how important it was to all of us,” forward Abby Wambach said to the Associated Press. “Nobody wanted to make that mistake. And luckily we didn’t.”

U.S. Women Smash Canada

After Friday’s win, both the Americans and the Canadian National Women’s Soccer Team earned trips to the Olympics. All that was left was a match, the CONCACAF final, between the powers on Sunday. Play by Abby Wambach, who scored twice, and Cal’s Alex Morgan (who made her first start in the tournament) added two more, made it no contest: the USA won 4-0.

Now, the USA Women’s Soccer Team is in a perfect position to avenge their World Cup Finals loss to Japan.

Stay tuned.
