The Iowa Caucus is today and marks the first test of the Republican, or if you like GOP, Presidential Candidates. But just was is the Iowa Caucus?
The Iowa Caucus is a gathering of tribes, essentially. In fact, the word “caucus” comes from the Native American term for just that: a gathering of tribes. There are no voting booths in the traditional way. Instead, the Iowa Caucus has meetings at places like churches, fire stations, and private homes. Republicans vote via secret ballot, while Democrats gather in groups behind the candidate they want. Since President Obama’s the incumbent president, and a Democrats, all Democrats in Iowa will gather behind President Obama. That leaves the GOP. According to this great ABC News Video / Inforgraph, the Iowa Caucus brings $51 million to the state.
But Who Will Win The Iowa Caucus?
But the question is who will win the Iowa Caucus? As of this writing, it’s really a toss-up. While Mitt Romney claims he will win Iowa, there’s really no obvious enthusiastic support for him. Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s the dark horse favorite, and a win by him would shock the GOP and the East Coast media.
