The New York Jets showed the NFL today that their defense can still intimidate teams and is one of the best defenses in the league after crushing the Kansas City Chiefs 37 to 10. The Jets defense, led by David Harris, only allowed one first down and 4 total yards of offense in the 1st half.
The Jets lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter thanks to great field position. Sanchez hit Holmes on a 4 yard touchdown pass, one of Sanchez’s 4 total touchdowns on the day. Mark became the first Jets quarterback in history to run for two touchdowns and throw for two touchdowns.
This is the second game in a row where the offense did not make any costly turnovers, and they moved the ball very efficiently. Sanchez finished the day 13 for 21 for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Greene finished the day carrying the ball 24 times for 129 yards and a touchdown. This is the type of offense the Jets need to run to do some serious damage in the playoffs.
The defense was absolutely superb, saving Chiefs quarterback Tyler Palko 5 times, tackling Chiefs running back Jackie Battle in the endzone for a safety, and hauling in an interception. The interception was costly thought, because reports are that Jim Leonhard, the jets starting safety, is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Revis island was in full effect all game against Dwayne Bowe, and the coverage that the Jets secondary had gave ample time for the Jets front seven to get to the quarterback.
The best statistic of the game has to be that the Jets were 5 for 5 when they entered the red zone. Every time they got the ball inside the 20 yard line, they scored a touchdown. The Jets are one of the best teams in the NFL in red zone offense, and behind an offensive line that is getting more and more confident with each passing week, I would expect for nothing to change. The offensive line, anchored by all pro center Nick Mangold and all pro left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson, only gave up two hits on Mark today.
The New York Jets control their own destiny at this point, but they will be tested next week when they travel to Philadelphia to play the Eagles, then they host the Giants at Metlife Stadium. Can the Jets win out and make the playoffs? I believe so.
