Ok, there’s a lot of talk about “quality content” being important for Google News. The problem I’ve always had with that is quality is in the eye of the beholder. To me, quality content has over 200 words, and great information in the text. And for some time, Google News has elevated content that met that criteria. But today that changed. In a search for news on Robert Griffin, The Heisman Trophy Winner some call “RG3”, the first item to show up at the top of the results was from The Washington Post, and it was this:
With just a video from the Associated Press and these words:
Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III beat out preseason favorite Andrew Luck for the Heisman Trophy, which is awarded to college football’s best player of the season. (Dec. 10) (The Associated Press)
That’s it.
That’s not an article, it’s a tumble. If Google News is going to allow that, then a number of blogs, including mine at Zennie62Blog.com, which has an application to Google News, should be in Google News. Also, Tumblr blogs should be able to qualify for submission.
Google News MUST STOP PROTECTING old media outlets because they fear a lawsuit. The Washington Post had its day in the sun; time to give way to new media players. Google News, please stop protecting them. That’s all this blogger asks. It’s not right or fair.
