On September 11, 2001 I was 11 and in the 6th grade. Our school kept everything hush hush until the afternoon announcements when our principal had told us that there was an attack – no details though. None of us in the room knew what that meant. My friend and I walked home from school as always and her father pulled his car up next to us and brought us back to her home immediately and showed us the television. I didn’t understand at first, I saw the footage of the planes crashing into the buildings and I couldn’t fathom why this was happening. It was ten years ago that this happened and now ten years later I can sit here and write this as I watch the CNN and FOX Coverage of the 9/11 Memorial. Luckily, I was not someone who lost a loved one on that day, but for those who did my deepest sympathy goes out to each and every person. Ten years later, Osama Bin Laden is now dead – the man who everyone pinpointed as who was against this entire attack. After 9/11 everyone in our country became united – everyone just seemed to be more patriotic, we saw more flags and there was just more patriotism within our country, but that has since changed. Of all the footage I have seen of 9/11 part of me is glad that I was censored from the worst of it – I didn’t even watch it until 3 pm – I didn’t get to see the couples holding hands and jumping out of windows to their deaths. 9/11 leaves a legacy for our country and I think that this day deserves to eventually be a national holiday.

I can’t believe it has been ten years.
