The Superman Suit that Henry Cavill will wear in the much-anticipated Superman: Man Of Steel movie has already gained reaction, but none that could be considered controversial – that is until the newest photos were released earlier this week. They reveal a Superman in a suit that’s skin-tight, and for some reason seems to glorify a bulge – and that’s probably the best way to put it. (Video link here.)

This blogger, visiting his Mom in Atlanta, could not resist covering DragonCon; the perfect place to ask fans for their reaction to the new costume. DragonCon is the one place where fanboys and fangirls most likely to see the new Superman movie, and have seen past versions of Superman, will be.

The results of my interviews, as you can see in the video, were totally hilarious.

The most dramatic reaction was from two Atlanta women dressed as Batgirl and “Harley Quinn,” an Arkham City escapee. “Batgirl” just screamed when I showed her the photo of Henry Cavill / Superman that’s, shall we say, full-body in view. Saying “NO” and “Bad Batman,” and her classic, “He’s got a cock ring,” “Batgirl” could not hide her displeasure with the new suit. Meanwhile, “Harley Quinn” seemed to enjoy both the suit, and her friend’s reactions.

The conversation about the suit drew a crowd, with the eventual verdict being that it’s too racy for Superman, and not the direction the character should be taken in.

Between women and men, about half the women I talked to were conflicted, both turned-on, yet turned-off at the same time. Most of the men, including myself, thought it was hilariously unnecessary, but one man used the photo to signal that he liked men to start with.

Three women who were walking through the Hyatt Regency Hotel to just gawk at the costumed DragonCon goers were the best example of a kind of dual reaction from women. They arguably represent a mainstream audience that will go and see the movie, even with this image.

The suit is certainly a departure, but it would seem it takes Superman into what two separate women described as “porn.” Why Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan elected to do this is the question. For some reason, I doubt they see it that way.

Stay tuned.
