This, the Sugarland Stage Collapse Indiana State Fair Tragedy, is simply the most horrifying video this blogger has ever posted. On Saturday, as the country band Sugarland was preparing to perform, powerful winds and thunderstorms were building. To the credit of the event organizers, they were evacuating people from the area around the stage when the unfortunate happened – the stage, a giant 50-foot tall structure – just plain collapsed.

The result was that 3, as of this writing, were killed and 24 more injured. Twitter is ablaze with tweets on the incident, and “Sugarland” and “Indiana State Fair” are both Twitter Trending Topics.

What happened was that the structure, a top-heavy design that brings up all sorts of questions from this blogger, toppled under stress from the winds.

My prayers to the families of the victims of this horrible event.

Is there some kind of general standard of design for these creations? What is it?

Stay tuned.
