The Albert Haynesworth trade from the Washington Redkins to the New England Patriots has Google Trends in a state not seen much of late: on fire.

And with the NFL active in this free agent period, the top 20 most searched keywords are albert haynesworth, reggie bush, eddie long, patriots, npi, cleveland clinic, miami dolphins, new orleans saints, new england patriots, kyle orton, steelers, redskins, better business bure…, detroit lions, washington redskins, madeleine mccann, tea party, vince young, connecticut, minnesota viking. So 14 of the top 20 search are related to the NFL.

It means more online traffic and ad revenue for the sports and pop culture sights that cover the National Football League.

If the NFL Lockout were still going on, this would not have happened. What would have replaced it?

My guess is the top searches would be for Madeleine Mccann, and for the Tea Party, which is threatening to wreck America’s economy because it 1) doesn’t understand macroeconomics and fears large numbers, and 2) wishes America didn’t have a black president in Barack Obama.

But I digress.

While some are shocked that Albert Haynesworth is a New England Patriot – frankly, he’s just going to a more mature organization – what should please the NFL, and what the National Football League should note in a press release, is that the “NFL Dominates Google Trends on Return of Football.”

That would be the truth.
