Jimmy Kimmel’s stage lit up with the presence of her hotness Missy Peregrym, the star of the ABC Television Drama Rookie Blue, now in its second season. Sporting a black dress, great legs, and nice biceps (she even flexed for Mr. Kimmel). Missy Peregrym is enjoying a nice rise in Internet buzz, but interestingly, it’s not as great as between 2006 and 2009. Then, she was on Heroes and dating Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

According to Google Trends, Missy Peregrym’s best online buzz years were between the first quarter of 2006 and the third quarter of 2008, with her best period being the first quarter of 2006. At that point, search intensity for Missy Peregrym reached an all-time high of 6.00, or six times the average level of search term volume for that point in time.

Why?

Well, before we dive deeper into the anatomy of Internet buzz for Missy Peregrym, check her out on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

But even with a full season of Rookie Blue and a new one in 2011, Ms. Peregrym still has not achieved the buzz level of 2006 – 2008. During that time, Missy made her feature film debut playing the lead character Haley Graham, in the comedy Stick It. That was the catalyst for several television talk show appearances, including on April 21, 2006, on the Tony Danza Show. That was the place in time when the highest Internet buzz about her was generated.

I don’t think that was because she was in a movie, indeed, a TV show gives a longer sustained exposure than a common movie. It was because she appeared on daytime talk shows, which have a better record of causing higher sustained daily Internet search buzz.
The reason is simply because there are more people watching television and online during the day, thus, more chances for media and blog sites to install posts about Missy, in response to her appearance on a talk show.

Missy jumped from one Internet buzz generator, to another, appearing on the very popular Heroes and as the co-star in Reaper the very next year, 2007. Both carried her healthy 2.5 to 2.0 buzz ranking into 2008, but even then it was on a downward slide and hit 1 by late 2008. It wasn’t until she started being called Ben Roethlisberger’s girlfriend that it went back up to over 2, but that lasted until the fall of 2009. Then, her Google Trends buzz rate dived to 1 and enjoyed a one-quarter spurt to 4 in 2010 (with the PR push for the then-new Rookie Blue.

Now, it is at 1 again, with her current appearances pushing search intensity to the near 2 level. And a bit of a deeper look into the data shows the search efforts are mostly in Canada, then the United States by half.

The question is can Missy Peregrym regain her Internet buzz of 2006? It can be done, and there are enough new media tools to cause that to happen, but they have to be used in a strategic way that seems to be beyond the current skill set of the people responsible for her marketing and public relations efforts.

That’s a shame, because Missy Peregrym has the right look to be a super-nova hot star right now. She’s got a great platform on Rookie Blue, but precious little is being done to capitalize on it.

What about Ben Roethlisberger?

It’s not clear that Peregrym and Ben Roethlisberger have been dating in the wake of the sex scandal that clouded his football career during 2009. But overall reports are that they have been again, off-again since 2007, even though buzz about them didn’t heat up until 2009. That was after their appearance at a Super Bowl party, but there aren’t any other photos around of the pair, and none since that point in time.

Stay tuned.
