Marcus Mariota In Titans QB Controversy With Zach Mettenberger

Wow. That did not take long, did it?

Considering that The Tennessee Titans already had two second year quarterbacks in Zack Mettenberger and Alex Tanney, and a veteran in Charlie Whitehurst, it didn’t take a genius to determine that there would be a locker room quarterback controversy the minute they drafted Marcus Mariota.

Sure enough, according to The Tennessean, that’s exactly what happened.

As the article points out, Taylor Lewan is Zack Mettenberger’s closest friend. What it does not report is that both were rookies last year. They grew in the NFL together. Now, in less than a season, they break up what chemistry has developed and all for a gamble on Marcus Mariota. So the lockerroom is behind Zack and that spells trouble for Mariota. Zack think’s he’s the starter.

“That is the mentality that Zach has. He thinks of himself as a starter, and the guys in the locker room do also. I don’t think he is going to give it up easily,” said Taylor Lewan.

The Tennessean reports that Lewan paid a visit to Mettenberger right after the NFL Draft and Marcus Mariota was taken by the Titans. That’s where the lines of division were drawn, and it cements my assertion that the Titans just plain screwed this up.

They had no business drafting Marcus Mariota.

Stay tuned.
