Dr Jen Welter NFL’s First Female Coach On Cam Newton And “Female Routes” Comment

Last week, Carolina Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton was asked a question by Jordan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer, a female reporter. In my interview with Dr. Jen Welter about her new book “Play Big,” we talked about Cam Newton, given the timing of his comment.

Jordan Rodrigue asked about the “physicality” of the routes ran by Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess. Newton responded by poking fun as a female asking questions about “routes” – a statement he apologized for making. What did Dr. Jen Welter, the NFL’s first female coach, and with the Arizona Cardinals, think of what he said?

Dr. Welter first emphasized that she’s a friend of Cam Newton and that he has been supportive of her from the start. She was taken aback by what he said, but then wondered what the reporter meant by “physicality” of routes?

Overall, she believed he was misjudged and said that Cam Newton is what she describes in my interview as a “very nice man. “”It doesn’t speak to the man that I know,” Dr. Welter said.

Dr Welter’s new book “Play Big” is a 228 page book that’s as much life lessons as it is about her journey to becoming the NFL’s first female coach. You can buy it at Amazon: http://ift.tt/2gxSUlx
