Eddie George: talent scout.
This blogger had the pleasure of meeting legendary Tennessee Titans Running Back Eddie George at the 2012 NFL Draft, and he was kind enough to give me a vlog recap of the first two days of the NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Mr. George was, at the time, working for Yahoo Sports, which has shown an interest in having ex-NFL running backs work at the NFL Draft, as they had Tiki Barber in 2011 and 2010 After some kidding about his bow-tie, which had nothing to do with Dhani Jones’ bow-tie charity effort, we talked about how teams did, and then about Alabama’s Trent Richardson and Oregon’s La Michael James. George’s point of view is one to look at now that we’re over halfway through the NFL Season of 2012.
As for teams, George has high praise for the St. Louis Rams, who “traded down and picked up value picks,” for their team. On of those value picks that George did not mention specifically was Jenoris Jenkins, the rookie CB who had two interceptions against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, something that’s not happened since 1960.
And Trent Richardson’s having a good first year with the Cleveland Browns. Of the Alabama star, George said he’s “a great running back,” who, “runs hard between the tackles, and praises his heart and passion for the game.
George was equally impressed with the San Francisco 49ers picking Oregon’s La Michael James. “They’ve got a change of pace running back they can use in a multitude of ways.”
Because the Niners haven’t activated him so far, James’ potential in the NFL has not been seen. But injuries may change that state of affairs, so stay tuned.
