Update: Starship Troopers: Invasion: Interview:

Trailer:

Starship Troopers: Invasion is a wonderful addition to the growing family of movies and games associated with the first movie, which used as its story platform the 1959 book by Robert Heinlein. But in the view of this blogger, Starship Troopers: Invasion is the best one of them all.

As I write this, I’m sitting in the press room at Comic Con 2012 in San Diego, thinking about why I like the movie so much. The reason that comes to mind is that it’s simple and effective, and realistic. That last word is very important because it’s a CGI movie that involved six digital effects houses, about 400 people, and took over a year to make. When you see the movie, and I hope you do, you will agree that it’s a job well done via the coordination of a lot of people.

About just over an hour ago, I had the pleasure of making a video-blog interview with executive producers “Johnny Rico” (otherwise known as Casper Van Diem, the original Starship Trooper) and Ed Neumeier (RoboCop and Starship Trooper screenwriter), the movie’s director the legendary Shinji Aramaki, and Tony Ishizuka, Vice President of International Productions for Sony, and the mastermind behind Starship Troopers (Casper, Ed, and Shinji are left-to-right in the photo, with Shinji in the middle). I’m going to save the contents of what we talked about for the blog about the video, but I will report that between Mr. Van Diem and Mr. Neumeier being overseers of the movie’s development, Tony as mastermind, and Shinji as the conductor, all of their objectives of making a movie that advances the Starship Troopers universe have been achieved.

Now, they want you to help them kill some bugs!!

Starship Troopers played to a packed house premier here at Comic Con 2012 Saturday night, and the response to it was excellent. Look, this is not a brainiac movie, OK. But what it does well in action and adventure, and a little CGI romance, is to be seen to be believed. Moreover, the story is a good yarn that has just enough twists to keep you on your toes.

Get Starship Troopers: Invasion on BlueRay and DVD with Ultraviolet at Walmart starting August 28th.
