The deal to send MLB slugger Albert Pujois to the Anaheim Angels, and paired with Pitcher CJ Wilson, was an early Christmas present for Angels fans. But it rudely ended the party the Miami Marlins started in making noise about their desire to have the home run great on their remade team.

You have to give it to the Miami Marlins. In building a new stadium, rolling out new uniforms, and making big, bold stroke deals – or trying to – the organization’s sending a message to fans that it means to give high value for the ticket dollar. A big part of their effort was the objective of signing Pujois and Wilson. If you think it came down to the Marlins not spending enough money, you’re wrong.

Acording to Steve Slowinski at SBNation.com, the Miami Marlins made larger offers to both players, but could not overcome the impact of their not including a no-trade clause in the contracts offered, according to Tim Dierkes at MLB Trade Rumors.

It was the Angels willingness to be flexible that landed them the deal that’s the talk of baseball.
